Mabar 84325 3 Unit Railcar UT432 with Sound DCC Prototype: The RENFE TERs (Tren Espanol Rapido :Spanish Fast Train) were a class of intercity diesel passenger trainsets that operated across the RENFE system from the mid 1960’s to the mid 1990’s. They were part of RENFE’s modernization plan to replace steam hauled passenger services. Thirty two-car sets were built in 1964 and 1965 by FIAT of Italy and CAF of Spain. The TERs were to be comfortable, have quick acceleration, and be equipped with Scharfenburg couplers for quick addition of second trainsets when longer trains were needed. In the 1970’s the TER’s were relegated to non-electrified lines, and they ran on these lines until retirement. In the 1980’s, some TERs were modified with disc brakes and standard European screw couplers. By 1995 the TERs had been retired. Some sets had run over five million kilometers in their careers. Today three TERs are preserved. Features
